Frequently asked questions
Everything about grading, grades, and getting graded.
- Is my grade really anonymous?
- Yes. When you grade a business, the business sees the grade and your answers — never your name, email, or anything that identifies you. The only exception is one you control: if you ask for a follow-up, you can volunteer your name and contact details so the business can respond. If you don't, they can't.
- How are grades computed?
- Each survey answer carries a score, and your answers average into a 0–100 grade for that visit. A business's overall grade is the average across all of its graded responses, translated to a letter on the classic report-card scale: above 96 is an A+, above 94 an A, down through B, C, and D ranges to F. The same formula applies to every business — there are no adjustments, ever.
- Can I grade the same business twice?
- You can grade each new visit, but not the same visit twice. Each survey has a waiting window between grades from the same person, so one bad (or great) day can't be stuffed into the ballot box. Grade again after your next visit.
- What are member points?
- Members earn points for completing surveys. Points accumulate toward member tiers — the more visits you grade, the higher your standing. Sign in to see your balance and lifetime total.
- Why do some businesses show a grade and others don't?
- Publishing a grade in the directory is the business's choice. Every participating business sees its own full report card privately; the ones showing a public grade have opted to put it on the wall. What no business can do is pay to change it.
- What's a survey code?
- It's the short code printed on a receipt, comment card, or email invitation — like M708. Enter it on the Grade a business page and it opens the right survey for that business and location.
- What does the VIP badge mean?
- Businesses can attach a VIP offer to their directory listing — a deal or perk for BizGrader members. It's advertising, and it's labeled as such. VIP status never affects a grade or a ranking.
- How does my business join?
- Email hello@bizgrader.app or visit the For business page. We set up your survey and codes, and your private report card starts filling in with the first response. You choose if and when your grade goes public.
